Bristol Sales Centre Official
Society Simmental Show and Sale
This year the spring sale
was staged a month earlier and with an entry of 100 pedigree
Simmentals and 68 animals forward it seems to be a popular decision
with the breeders. The catalogue included a draft sale of animals
from the Crackley Herd and a reduction sale of females from the
Loxton Herd. Reflecting the trends of Simmental spring
sales throughout the British Isles the top bid for bulls was 4,200
gns for the reserve male champion Crackley Whiteknight. The average
figure of £2461.14 for the 25 bulls forward was almost £700 lower
than 2009. David Nicholas (Pentor) produced another Corskie Radium youngest purchased from Penny Lally. Chyanhal Wilbur took third in his class and sold for 2,850gns. Barrie Wynter stood second in the last class of the day with Bolankin Amadeus, full brother to Bolankin Wesley winner of the same section in 2009, and sold for 1450 gns. Crowgey Atlas, a January 2009 son of Chegwidden Mika, might not have been John Moore’s (Omorga) choice in the show ring but he secured one of the top four bids of the day for Kevin and Tanya Thomas selling for 2,900 gns. Tilbrook Watty, a September 2008 son of Samark Superman, was purchased by Dave Allen (Penallen) for 3,000gns. Dave also took home Astcote Vixen by Blackford Hawk with her first calf, a January born heifer by Racevew King, at foot and the maiden heifer Fortress Cadette 1W. The female average price of £1744.85 was an improvement of £130.00 on the 2009 sale. The in-calf heifer Wishful Vanilla (Mr & Mrs D. Mills) sold for 3,500 gns and the maiden heifer Boars Head Grace 4th (Mr R. Green ham) was secured by Steve and Gillian Gummow (Killiworgie) for 2,300gns. Steve and Gill also took home Foreland Another One a February 2009 daughter of Skerrington Talent. The six heifers sold by Gavin and Gemma Doyle from their first crop of calves by Talent justified the 10,000gns investment made at Perth in February 2008. Keith, Caroline and Piers Hawkey selected a February 2008 Dovefields Gallant daughter, Silver Birch WKD, adding to the impressive list of bloodlines featured in their successful Sowenna herd. |
