 Hockenhull Heifers Join Cornwall Herds

A once in a lifetime event took place at Beeston Castle , Taporley, Cheshire on Tuesday 22nd September 2009 when breeders the length and breadth of the British Isles gathered to witness the dispersal of The Hockenhull Simmental Herd. Hugo, Geraldine and James Arnold offered beautifully presented cattle whose quality and consistency throughout was very impressive. Like children in a sweet shop prospective buyers clutching catalogues eagerly marked their selections before the 12 noon sale started.

It wasn’t possible to fit everyone into the seated and standing areas around the sale ring. Television screens had been set up by the pens where bids were made via tic tac and telephone. In an electric atmosphere the 102 lots sold averaged £4447.

Top price of the day was £14, 000 gns paid for Hockenhull Juliet 10th (terminal sire index of 25+ and a self replacing index of +31). A July 2006 daughter of Hockenhull Norman out of Juliet 3rd by Blackford Harvester she joins Mike Frazer, Templepatrick , Northern Ireland.

Tony and Anne Jukes Swallowhill, Kent secured the lovely January 2007 heifer Hockenhull Trudy 36th by Hockenhull Norman and in calf to Hockenhull Red Rum with a bid of £11,000 gns. There were several entries representing the famous Snow Queen family with Snow Queen 35th by Popes Laird and her February daughter by Dirnanean Soloman making £10, 000 gns (Tom Greenhill, Craighill, Dundee) and £7500 gns (DW & C Jones Gwent)respectively.

John and Bridget Olds successfully purchased a March 2007 Red Rum daughter, Hockenhull Natalie 48th .

In calf to Dirnanean Soloman, Natalie weighed in at a hefty 775 kgs back at Bosahan. Steve and Gillian Gummo added Hockenhull Girlie 38th to their Killiworgey herd. An April 2007 daughter of Blackford Harvester out of Girlie 12th by Dovefields Gallant she sold with the impressive scores of a terminal index of +33 and self replacing index of +35 and is in calf to Hockenhull Kramer (P).
