Royal Cornwall 2010

The 2010 Royal Cornwall Show enjoyed near perfect weather for showing cattle. A quality beef section was headed by Boddington Estates lovely cow Sterling Micelle’s Rhapsody’ repeating her 2008 success as interbreed champion.

The Cornwall Simmental Club were well represented by cattle from the Bolankin, Bosahan, Cathedral, Chyanhal, Crowgey, Killiworgie, Pentor and Sowenna herds. Joined by David Barker (Heywood) from Taunton everyone gained a ticket and provided the Sterling herd with credible competition.

First time exhibitors Steve and Gill Gummow had a wonderful show taking the Male Championship with the impressive ‘Lakeside Warrior’. Purchased at the October Stirling Bull sales this March 2008 son of ‘Kilbride Farm Newry’ is an exciting addition to the Killiworgie herd. The June born ‘Sterling Augustus 09’ representing the first crop of ‘Sterling Viking’ calves was selected as reserve.

‘Warrior’ joined ‘Rhapsody’ to take the reserve spot in the Senior Interbreed pairs to the Limousins.

One of the strongest classes of the day was headed by Keith, Caroline and Piers Hawkey’s outstanding two year old heifer Sowenna Willow. The judge Brian Allan (Glenturk) deliberated long and hard over the quality line up forward for the female championship. In the end Boddington Estates ‘Rhapsody’ and her November 2007 daughter Sterling Rhapsody’s Vivian by ‘Çorskie Principal’ took the honours while many ringside spectators felt that Willow deserved the reserve ticket.

Penny Lally repeated her Devon County success with Çhyanhal Able 09’ winning one of the Junior Bull classes. Again the judge found selecting the best Junior pair to represent the British Simmental breed tricky. In the end ‘Augustus’ lined up with ‘Sowenna Annie’, 4th in the yearling heifer class, to take 3rd place in the Junior interbreed pairs.

The new hospitality tent was successfully hosted by Ed and William providing a comfortable and sociable place to meet. The club appreciates the combined efforts of the committee members and their friends/family who erected and dismantled the tent.
